I was first introduced to Jane Iredale products about two years back when I was on the panel of judges for the VIVA Beauty Awards. I received a lipstick and lipgloss and I really liked the whole ‘nature’ element to the brand. A few weeks back, I received a few loose and pressed powders to try out, a hydrating spray and a lip balm, and it was a lovely reminder of all the natural elements associated with the ingredients.
For those that are unaware of Jane Iredale products, this is a Mineral-based brand that believes in providing cosmetic products that are safer and healthier for the skin. So if you are prone to sensitivities, redness and acne, then these foundations are a great option. Also, Jane Iredale products are Cruelty Free and there are no Animal testings carried out ! Yay ! I love brands that actually have a conscience.
I received 3 shades in two different textures: Amazing Base Loose Mineral Powder and PurePressed Base Mineral FDT. The shades I received are classified under the ‘Warm” category, however in my opinion they have more of a honey undertone which is good. I find that most FDT’s have a lot of pink undertone and it just makes the majority of us with Asian/hispanic and Arab skin tones looking grey and ashy.
As you can tell from the swatches, the loose powder was a lot more pigmented in texture and color than the pressed powder. So for those that are looking for a more daytime natural finish, the PurePressed Base Powders are a great option.
For those looking for more coverage, I would use a liquid FDT first and then use a buffing brush to apply the Amazing Base Loose Mineral Powder on top – and that’s only if you feel that you need full coverage. Otherwise you can just use it on its own, and it’ll give you a light-medium finish.
Between the Pressed and Loose, I actually preferred the texture of the Amazing Base Loose Mineral Powder more. I liked the fuller creamier coverage that I got with the loose powders. After a few mins of leaving the powders on, they melted into my skin and didn’t look cakey at all.
I also received a Smell The Roses Hydration Spray and it’s just lovely !!! As a makeup tip, you could even spritz this on after applying your FDT to give your skin that dewy look.
Rose water has so many amazing properties for the skin and it nourishes and calms the skin against redness so it’s great to have it available as a facial spritz. This is a great carry-on in your handbag to give your skin some much needed ‘pick me up’ when you’re running between meetings and appointments. I would totally pack this with me when I’m traveling !
This is a mini sample of the Lip Drink, so the actual product is a lot larger in size. The Jane Iredale LipDrink (how cute is that name) has SPF 15 and also UVA P+++ protection. So this product is meant to quench your lips with hydration and moisture, but personally I didn’t feel like it did much for my lips in the long run. I loved the lemony scent but that was about it. My lips still felt dry 5-10mins later and even after reapplying it, I didn’t get the smoothness I anticipated. So unfortunately this was a miss for me.
All in all, Jane Iredale products are a refreshing reminder that makeup can look good and BE good for your skin.
