Make-over using Neutral Shades

As a Makeup artist I absolutely love the thrill of working backstage on a show or a high end magazine editorial, but nothing beats glamming up the girl next door.

This is the lovely Jillo who is an exquisite mix of roots from Sri Lanka and Sierra Leone !

For her make-over I wanted to keep her make-up fresh and natural with a classic winged eye liner, something that could work for a day or night look. I absolutely loved the soft peach lips I had given her but later had the biggest urge to give her mouth a stronger lip colour, and she pulled both looks effortlessly.

How to contour

I started working with her face, giving her some contour and highlight using concealers and correctors from the Alcone DermaColor Palette. I wanted to keep this look quite natural so I kept the “highlighted” part quite close to her natural skin tone. I mixed Benefit’s Flawless FDT and Estee Lauder’s Double Wear to give her a medium coverage. I warmed up her face with MAC’s Mineralize Skinfinish Powder in Dark. I love Real Techniques Stippling brush and used it to buff the foundation into her skin for that airbrushed finish.

Products to create a natural eye makeup look

For her Eye Make-up, I used the NARS “And God Created Woman” Palette. The palette comes in 6 shades and are too die for ! There are 2 shimmery eye shadows, a skintone peach, and a darker champagne. 2 mattes which are great for blending into the crease ; a greyish brown and deep chocolate brown. And then we’ve got 2 deeper eyeshadows of golden brown and grey/black with soft glitter specks.

To give her that jet black classic winged eye liner I used Inglot’s Gel black Eyeliner with their Angle Eyebrow Brush. I have tried, used and experimented with various eyeliners, and this has to be on my absolute must-have list. Unlike brands like MAC or Bobbi Brown, this gel eyeliner does not dry or cake up easily. I usually have to chuck away my gel eyeliners within the 2nd month or so, but I’m still going 4months strong with Inglot’s eyeliner.

I also used ShadowShields – best eye makeup invention ever- to stop eye shadow from falling all over her face. Red Cherry Lashes in #DW with a sweep of Max Factor’s Clump Defy finished her eye make-up look.

For that natural, almost nude lip colour, I used NYX Lip Pencil in Mahogany, NARS Satin Lip Pencil in Biscayne Park and MAC Lipglass in Oyster Girl.

Neutral eyeshadow with Burgundy lipstick

It’s crazy how a pop of colour on the mouth can totally transform a look. To create that deep burgundy red on Jillo, I used MUFE Aqua Lip Pencil in 12C, NARS Satin Lip Pencil in Cruella, and Wet n Wild lipstick in 911D.

If anyone is interested in Red Cherry Lashes, Real Techniques Brushes and Shadowshields, they’ll soon be available on : www.ezeenah.com
